設計上の考慮事項
An eBook Reader (short for electronic book reader) is a hand-held electronic device designed specifically for viewing and reading digital media. Key design considerations include:
- Applications Processor: the OMAP3621 processor OMAP36x is designed and optimized for low-power operation. It manages all the critical functions including text or video displays and audio interfaces. Typical operating systems used are Linux and Android.
- Wireless Connectivity: TI's WiLink is a single-chip WiFi, Bluetooth and FM solution WiLink 6.0. It meets low-power, small form-factor and low cost requirements of eBook.
- Display: Electrophoretic Displays (EPD) are a new class of displays that have an advantage of being bi-stable over traditional displays such as LCD. Bi-stability consumes zero power to display text and consumes power only to update the display (i.e. turning to the next page) leading to an extremely power-efficient system. TI’s touch screen controller solutions offer low power, high ESD protection and small-footprint package options. They are immune to vibration and display noise. The TPS65180 provides complete EPD bias solution.
- Audio: The TLV320AIC3100/10/11 are low-power audio codecs that integrate stereo headphone and class-D speaker amplifiers to extend battery life. They are capable of advanced audio processing for improved voice and music. They are pin-to-pin and sw compatible to allow enable quick and easy product spin. Software for OMAP is available. Additional power savings can be achieved by using the TPA6141A2, a class-G DirectPath (capfree) stereo headphone amplifier.
- Power Management: TI provides the complete power management solution for an eBook design including a Power Management Unit (PMU) designed specifically for the EPD (TPS65180), another PMU to power the system and 3G modem module supply. The outstanding efficiency of the power conversion extends battery run time in addition to minimizing heat dissipation.
- Battery Management - accurate fuel gauging maximizes usable battery capacity and ensures orderly shutdown. The option to choose between system side and pack side battery fuel gauge offers customers flexibility in design.
